Today was the annual neighborhood Tithing Hill 5K.  Last year I took second, and took second again this year.  However, this year I took second to the high school cross country team runner.  More importantly, I finally beat my neighborhood running arch nemesis, even though he took us both out way too fast.  Last year he gapped me early, and I was not going to let that happen this year.

Course is an out and back along the Jordar River Parkway.  Mile 1, into brisk head wind 5:40.  2nd mile paid for too fast a start 6:20.  Got passed by cross country kid right at start of last mile, which was good timing for him since I was in no mood to go with him.  3rd mile 6:03.  Last .1, 32 seconds.

So, PR and almost one minute improvement from last year, even with the drag of my mullet.

Wore my actual soccer uniform from 1987:

This face says: I got beat by the 17-year-old, but I beat my 42-year-old arch-nemesis.

Number 9 and the winner:

Sans mullet, in that classic soccer photo crouch:

And my youngest son got duded up on his own for the event.  Wonder where he gets it from?

2.5 mile warm up.   .5 cooldown.

Woah! I didn't recognize you in your guise. I bet everyone thought you came to crash the party. Who is this guy?

Great job Paul. I love the outfit. Too funny. I wish I had known about the race. We must have just missed you this morning. It would have been fun to cheer you on.

From Bill Mandler on Sat, Sep 19, 2009 at 14:52:24 from 24.119.13.42

Not only did you get a PR...you get a mullet PR, which is FAR more valuable :)

From redrooster on Sat, Sep 19, 2009 at 15:03:11 from 71.219.152.116

nice run and great time! did my old mission buddy Mark Ostler run this one?

From marion on Sat, Sep 19, 2009 at 15:33:29 from 71.213.124.121

I am with Josse, you are AWESOME and the race was pretty good too :) I love the soccer uniform!

Seriously, CONGRATULATIONS on your PR and beating your arch nemesis! My nemesis is the laundry and I have not figured out how to beat that bad boy!

As bad as it is to be beat by a 17 year old, can you imagine how bad it would have been for the 17 year old to have been beat by an old mullet dude in an 80's soccer uniform? ;D

Have a GREAT day!!!

From Kelli on Sat, Sep 19, 2009 at 16:15:54 from 71.219.96.151

NICE RACE! I love that your soccer uniform still fits so well, and it is so flattering. The real question is whether or not you sported a real mullet back then????

From JD on Sat, Sep 19, 2009 at 18:56:56 from 166.203.79.163

You wear it well.

Good job on the PR!

Right on Paul. Nice job on the PR and the pics. I might be able to recognize you if I see you on the trail now.:) Way to beat your nemesis.

Nice race, sweet doo!

From Rhett on Sun, Sep 20, 2009 at 22:24:46 from 74.32.223.209

Paul, I am laughing so hard right now. That is SWEET! You are a riot! Congrats on the super speedy 5K. I'm going to have to start training again one of these days. I think you have well surpassed my running abilities.

From Andy on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 11:59:55 from 199.190.170.24

Amazing race. Apparently this is your lucky outfit and you must wear it for SGM.

From fly on the Wall on Mon, Sep 21, 2009 at 15:39:25 from 168.179.215.242

Grow the MULLET. Your PR and 2nd place finish was all about mulletude. The bitchen power, strength, and stamina provided by mulletude far exceed mulletdrag.

When I wear my mullet wig I'm amazed by the guarded caution otherwise warm and friendly people treat me with.... And this is on Halloween.

By the way, I think I saw you at the state fair this weekend. You drive a 77 Firebird with the left head light out, right?

From Sasha Pachev on Wed, Sep 23, 2009 at 19:42:13 from 192.168.1.1

This race is rather revealing. You improved your time by 55 seconds from last year. I assume the same course.

First mile in 5:40 shows you are more of a 17:40 5 K guy with proper focus. Which gives you hope for around 2:45-2:50 marathon.

From MMetcalf on Fri, Sep 25, 2009 at 22:50:59 from 68.164.105.38

was the high school runner Carter slighting or how was it i know him but its hard to tell from the back
