Modification of image posed last week, if you concentrate on the black center the dots will appear yellow then disappear altogether:

Now, the image of the woman below is not objectively “spinning” in one direction or the other. It is a two-dimensional image that is simply shifting back and forth. But our brains did not evolve to interpret two-dimensional representations of the world but the actual three-dimensional world. So our visual processing assumes we are looking at a 3-D image and is uses clues to interpret it as such. Or, without adequate clues it may just arbitrarily decide a best fit – spinning clockwise or counterclockwise. And once this fit is chosen, the illusion is complete – we see a 3-D spinning image.

By looking around the image, focusing on the shadow or some other part, you may force your visual system to reconstruct the image and it may choose the opposite direction, and suddenly the image will spin in the opposite direction.

That is so cool but FREAKY at the same time that I can actually "force" my visual system to reconstruct a reverse in the "illusional spinning" direction!

Sure put a new "spin" on the phrase "I'll believe it when I see it."

We saw something like this at the Blue Man group in Vegas, very cool!

Nice work out.

I can't make it change directions! STINK! : )

Paul, you must have had a busy work day if you are just getting around to posting. I hope it was a good busy.

It took me a while but finally got her spinning the opposite direction. Very cool!

Very cool! I love these things. My wife and I saw her spinning in opposite directions, and she couldn't understand how I could possible be seeing her spinning counter-clockwise. Then she was able to see it my way...that's a first! :)

YESSS!!!!

Finally got the lady to spin in either direction at will.

I got her to spin upside down. I had to stand on my head.
