7 easy at 8:30, random incline to 1.5%.

Tapering makes me feel lazy.

The blogs course predictor tool for a 3:00:00 marathon at Ogden provides the following splits.  As you can see, not exactly even splits.

I am naturally lazy, therfore tapering makes me feel normal. How you feeling for the big weekend?

From RivertonPaul on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 11:49:10 from 67.42.27.114

Mike,

Being the first marathon of the year, I have no real idea how things will go. I feel in better shape than previous years heading into Ogden so I am pleased in that regard, but am wondering whether to push things and risk blowing up or just hold back. Glad you are feeling well again.

From Rhett on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 12:48:05 from 74.41.249.102

I'm glad you have come to your senses and are tapering nicely. What is the plan for Ogden? I don't even know the course. Is it a tipical UT marathon coming out of the mountains then leveling off at the end. If so are you shooting of even splits or what?

From RivertonPaul on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 12:56:19 from 67.42.27.114

Rhett, the course is fairly typical for Utah, about 7 miles slight downhill, then about 7 miles of rolling hills, biggest uphill about mile 15 then slight uphill to 18 when you head down the canyon. Last mile is a bit rolling and though almost level net, is a slight uphill to the finish.

The blog course tool has it as one of the courses http://fastrunningblog.com/course.php , and it reflects how running even splits is not necessarily the best way to run based on the changing elevations. I'm going to shoot for splits along the lines of the course tool if I can hold them.

You are anything but lazy!!!

Can't wait to hear how you do on Saturday. :)

From RivertonPaul on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 13:19:55 from 67.42.27.114

FYI,

I updated today's entry to include the Ogden Marathon splits for a 3:00:00 marathon based on the blog's course tool.

From Kathie on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 14:03:46 from 207.155.176.10

Good luck this weekend. It looks like you have a good plan. So are you going to create a wrist band with the splits?

From Cheryl on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 14:07:48 from 76.27.66.153

Wow, talk about a trip down memory lane. I'm 14 again with a crush on all the Osmonds, especially you know who.

From Smooth on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 14:29:49 from 71.36.74.243

Nice pace plan! Can't wait to see how you race your plan on Sat. GOOD LUCK on your first mary of the season! Sub-3 here you come!!!

From DonGardinero on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 15:02:13 from 75.162.164.228

Paul...You often spoke of running on a decline on the treadmill. I'd like to try that in the near future, but my treadmill doesn't decline. I read in RunnersWorld someone put something under the back of the treadmill to raise it up. Have you ever done that? I wonder if it would mess up my treadmill....Hmmmm

From RivertonPaul on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 15:06:38 from 67.42.27.114

Dale,

I've not done it on my home treadmill. I suppose it depends on the quality of the treadmill.

From josse on Thu, May 14, 2009 at 11:28:09 from 70.192.23.132

Good luck on your race! Patience is the KEY to going sub-3;)

From Dustin on Thu, May 14, 2009 at 12:22:07 from 204.113.48.69

Good Luck breaking that 3 hour barrier I know you can do it. I think Bill Campbell (wildbull) might be shooting for the same time.

From Jon on Thu, May 14, 2009 at 14:17:36 from 138.64.2.76

Good luck! Go out easy, and kill it at mile 18!

From RivertonPaul on Thu, May 14, 2009 at 14:24:34 from 67.42.27.114

Thanks all.

Jon, do you agree with Sasha's pace calculator? I suppose you don't because it would have me going through the half in 1:30. I've reread your race account from last year and saw you pulled off a good negative split. What's realistic for around 3:00?

From Bec on Thu, May 14, 2009 at 15:54:50 from 205.123.38.151

Good luck at Ogden my friend. That looks like a speedy plan to follow. I don't know if I could be able to keep up! Stay close to 7 mm.

From Teena on Thu, May 14, 2009 at 16:32:39 from 67.177.20.13

So Paul,

How are you feeling?? Can't wait for you to smoke the course!! Hope you do your race report on Saturday so I don't have to wait until Monday to hear all about it!!!

Kill it!!! :)

From Smooth on Thu, May 14, 2009 at 17:02:59 from 71.36.74.243

Just be sure it's not murder!

Can't wait to hear how it goes. In 48 hours you'd be basking in victory's glow & glory! :)

From Michelle N. on Fri, May 15, 2009 at 10:44:52 from 75.162.247.50

Good luck tomorrow! I'm excited to see how you do!

From JeffC on Fri, May 15, 2009 at 11:26:10 from 167.207.128.101

Good luck at Ogden tomorrow.

From Teena on Fri, May 15, 2009 at 12:53:26 from 67.177.20.13

Go get it Paul!!! It's yours!!!

Best of luck. :)

From Julie on Fri, May 15, 2009 at 13:05:59 from 71.35.241.219

Good luck tomorrow. You'll do great.

From Andy on Fri, May 15, 2009 at 13:13:25 from 199.190.170.24

Good luck Paul. Both times that I have run Ogden, I started out too fast and was in survival mode by the time I hit the canyon and was unable to take advantage of the real downhill. The pacing chart is alright but I'm not sure that miles 22 and 23 are realistic.
