Hey there!

I have been trying to mimic some of your workouts (along with some of the other diehards on here -- I am NOT diehard ... only a wannabe). Of course I won't be able to do all of them, but I have a question: Do you usually do two classes a week, elliptical, and running? Is there any sequence when you do them or do you just fit them in where you can? Also, how often do you run hard versus easy?

I am sort of a do whatever fits the moment guy. Overall, I try to workout consistently, opting to build a big aerobic base. I think this has helped me avoid too serious of injuries. I do try to do classes at the gym, 2 or 3 times a week even though the time spend on them is not running specific. Long-term health is important as well as short-term running success.

So ... are you building aerobic base in between races or just mainting what you already have? Also, what intensity should the aeorbic base building workouts be done at?

Seriously -- thanks for your help here, I am trying to do things right and avoid the injuries I always seem to accumulate.

I've just been maintaining, probably lost some fitness since SGM, but not too much (hopefully). Elliptical really helps the body recover while building aerobic base, even though you may not initially be as fast at running you can get healthy.

Thanks for the advice.

Mentally it is hard to do more elliptical in the place of running ... mostly because when I don't run I am convinced that I am losing all of my running fitness by the minute. I know that sounds dramatic ... but that is how I feel.

You are a great example of keeping everything balanced.
